Universcience groups two Parisian science centres the Palais de la Découverte and la Cité des sciences et de l’industrie.
The Palais de la decouverte is a public science museum located in Paris for 70 years, on the Grand Palais Champs-Elysées. It enjoys around 550 000 annual visitors (25 million since its opening) who can attend 60 daily science shows with real experiments carried out by scientists dealing with the basics of science, exhibits and workshops to discuss the latest scientific issues through lectures, conferences.
The Cité des sciences et de l’industrie Opened in March 1986, is one of the largest centres for science communication in Europe and welcomes around 3,55 million visitors each year (73 million since its opening) . Through its wide range of permanent and temporary exhibitions, year-round events, areas such as a digital resource centre, a scientific and a professional library dedicated to the history of sciences, a scientific updated news service, health and job centres, a specific room for the blind and visually impaired, several auditoriums dedicated to films and lecture program, pedagogical activities for schools and entertainment, the Cité des sciences aims at facilitating access to the issues of the latest developments in science and technology to a large audience and is very much involved in training and educating visitors through a program offering a wide range of hands-on activities and actions, demonstrations, shows with the expertise and the help of skilled explainers.
Now, Universcience which groups both The Cité des sciences et de l’industrie and the Palais de la découverte have also developed an extensive network of partnerships together with: Industrial partners and Research bodies both at the national and European level and with science centres. Universcience is also National Pole of the scientific culture and is preparing new governance for science culture on a national scale in French regions. At the same time, Universcience is willing to be an essential reference tool for scientific discussion and creativity, through its www.universcience.fr web portal (around 8 million internet visitors per year) and its new web TV channel www.universcience.tv ( around 1.5 million podcast downloaded).
