LabICT-PA    ICT Laboratory for the Public Administration

 

Highlight of LL objectives and profile/domain

 

The LabICT-PA is part of the Emilia-Romagna High Technology Network and aims to faster and to speed up the innovation within the Public Administrations. The LabICT-PA activities, hosted and coordinated by Lepida SpA, involve universities and enterprises, and are based on the local Public Administrations needs ensured by continuous coordination and evaluation by the Regional governance. The LabICT-PA activities are focused on the development and testing of innovative ICT services for the Public Administrations thanks to the availability of a special great regional test bed: the heterogeneous interconnected networks and the ICT infrastructures owned by the all the regional Public Administrations, and managed by Lepida SpA, covering the whole regional territory.

 

Description

The LabICT-PA represent a coherent and mutually reinforcing support to the preparation and implementation of the Regional ICT plan and to the regional governance that involves all the local Public Administrations. The governance contribute concretely to build and to address the LabICT-PA activities, and to ensure the results deployment.The LabICT-PA has at its own disposal, a unique test bed: the heterogeneous interconnected networks and the ICT infrastructures owned by the all the regional Public Administrations, and managed by Lepida SpA, covering the whole regional territory, composed by a Regional Area Network (Optical fiber), several Metropolitan Area Networks (Optical fiber), a regional private digital radio network (in standard TETRA), several wireless networks (Hiperlan2 technology), etc. Moreover, the LabICT-PA potential in terms of Public Entities involved (about 400) and business partners represent an important critical mass for the co-design, co-innovation and test of innovative technological solutions and services.

 

References and Track Record

The LabICT-PA is interested in the development and testing of new applications and services for the Public Administrations exploiting the potential of the telecommunications networks and the ICT infrastructures. In particular, in the start-up phase LabICT-PA activities deals with Smart Cities, sensor networks and Future Internet.The activity aim is the realization of working prototypes, not engineered, able to demon- strate all the potential of the project idea and to allow the measurement of the performance. The Laboratory is currently working on the following service areas: video surveillance, sensor networks and mobile applications.
